Slip Ratings Information

R Ratings are part of a scale defined by the DIN 51130 slip-resistance standard, which measures how resistant a surface is to slipping on inclines with a standard shoe. The full R-scale goes from R9 (lowest slip resistance) up to R13 (highest slip resistance). Porcelain tiles are made with slip ratings of between R9 and R11

  • R9 – Low slip resistance, smooth surfaces.
  • R10 – Moderate slip resistance.
  • R11 – Medium to high slip resistance (common in kitchens, bathrooms).
  • R12 – High slip resistance, ideal for industrial areas or wet floors.
  • R13 – Very high slip resistance, used for extreme conditions, steep inclines, or very wet/oily environments.

R11

An R11 slip rating indicates a high level of slip resistance, making porcelain tiles suitable for outdoor applications. Ideal for areas that are exposed to all weather elements. R11 slip rating provides enhanced grip and safety underfoot.

R11 A + B

The R11 A + B slip rating indicates a high level of slip resistance, suitable for areas where safety is critical. In this system, R11 refers to the DIN 51130 standard, which measures a surface’s resistance to slipping when walking on it with a normal shoe under wet or oily conditions. R11 surfaces are considered moderately to highly slip-resistant, making them ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, outdoor terraces, or commercial spaces.

R11 A+B+C

The R11 A + B + C slip rating represents a very high level of slip resistance, designed for environments where safety is essential. According to the DIN 51130 standard, R11 indicates a surface that is moderately to highly slip-resistant under wet or oily conditions when walked on with regular footwear. The A + B + C designation further classifies the surface texture into multiple friction zones, with A being the least resistant, B medium, and C the highest. Together, this combination ensures maximum grip, making it ideal for commercial kitchens, bathrooms, wet areas, terraces, and other high-risk spaces, while still maintaining a stylish and functional finish.

R10 A+B+C

An R10 A+B+C slip rating indicates reliable slip resistance combined with the highest level of barefoot safety. The R10 rating offers good traction for general use, while the A+B+C classification confirms suitability for wet barefoot areas with increasing incline resistance. This makes these porcelain tiles ideal for bathrooms, showers, pool surrounds, spas, and wellness areas where comfort and safety under wet conditions are essential.

R10

An R10 slip rating indicates good slip resistance, providing reliable traction under normal wet and dry conditions. It is suitable for residential and light commercial areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces, offering a practical balance between safety, comfort, and ease of maintenance.

R9

An R9 slip rating indicates moderate slip resistance, suitable for dry or low-moisture areas. These porcelain tiles are ideal for interior residential spaces such as living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and wall applications, where a smooth surface and easy maintenance are prioritised over high traction.
